UNESCO-MGIEP

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP to promote social and emotional learning (SEL) in higher education. The signing ceremony took place at the IGDTUW Campus Auditorium, Kashmere Gate ,Delhi on 5 April 2023, where dignitaries from the institutions were present. The agreement between these three institutes outlines the collaborative efforts between the Parties to promote social and emotional learning (SEL) in the context of education. The Parties have agreed to work together to organize information sessions and workshops for teachers and students on SEL, to adapt UNESCO MGIEP's SEL courses with relevant local contextualization and translations where possible, and to enroll teachers and students in UNESCO MGIEP's

SEL courses to build their capacities. This partnership will bring global standards in the area of Life-skills. Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Dev, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (VC) of IGDTUW delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of SEL in higher education and the significance of STEM education among young women. Dr. Anantha K. Duraiappah, Director of UNESCO MGIEP, spoke about the benefits and expectations through this MoU and discussed about developing the Empathy, Mindfulness, Compassion, Critical inquiry (EMC2) model—the MGIEP’s novel approach on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). The MoU was exchanged between IGDTUW and UNESCO MGIEP, followed by the exchange of the MoU between DSEU and UNESCO MGIEP. The guests were felicitated for their invaluable contributions in their respective fields. This MoU is particularly significant in the context of India's G20 presidency. India's focus on socioemotional learning aligns perfectly with the G20's goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth through education. A vote of thanks was proposed in the end , followed by the National Anthem. The event concluded with a message of collaboration and innovation towards creating a better future for all.
